AT&T announced a few days ago that the company would be transitioning its managed application and managed hosting customers to IBM. Verizon is another giant telecommunications company is a lot alike AT&T. If AT&T doesn’t want to stay in the business of web hosting but only in the business of providing the network infrastructure. Verizon may also unload the company’s datacenter and managed web hosting business. Verizon acquired Terremark and its portfolio of datacenters a few years ago. The acquisition increased Verizon’s presence in the web hosting business.
IBM has been increasing its presence in the web hosting industry. Starting with the acquisition of SoftLayer and now acquiring AT&T’s web hosting business. IBM maybe one of a few companies that is looking to acquire web hosting assets if Verizon is looking to sell its web hosting business.
