Amazon’s AWS unit has launched a new product line called Lightsail. Lightsail is pretty much a virtual private service (VPS) product offering. Starting at $5 dollars per month for 512 MB of memory, 1 vCPU, 20 GB of SSD storage, and 1 TB of data transfer. Other plans include $10, $20, $40, and $80 per month options.
Amazon Lightsail has support for the following operating systems: Ubuntu, Debian, CentOS, FreeBSD, and Amazon Linux AMI. Existing VPS providers will probably start to either update their offerings or try to differentiate themselves from the 800 pound web hosting gorilla known as Amazon AWS now.
